Emmelly Sarmiento
From Studying Systems to Supporting People
Emmelly is a graduate student clinician at Steady Compass and a Master of Social Work candidate at Central Connecticut State University. She works with teens ages 14 and up and with adults, meeting clients virtually and offering sessions in both English and Spanish.
She earned her undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from Western Connecticut State University, where she developed a broad understanding of how social systems and institutions affect individuals, families, and communities. That perspective sparked a deeper question: what are the individual and social factors that shape a person's life, and how can people be supported through their hardest seasons?
Why Social Work
Pursuing social work lets Emmelly take a person-centered approach. It gives her the opportunity to work directly with individuals and communities, to advocate for their needs, and to help connect people with the opportunities and resources that can make a real difference.
Safe, heard, and comfortable. That is the space I want every client to walk into.
How Emmelly Works With You
Emmelly's approach is grounded in creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable, heard, and understood.
She sees growth and meaningful change as possible when people feel supported, understood, and empowered. Her goal is to create and maintain a space where clients can explore their experiences, develop healthy coping strategies, and work toward their goals at a pace that feels right for them.
Warmth, Compassion & a Calm Presence
As a social work intern, Emmelly brings warmth, compassion, and a calm personality to her work with clients. She aims to listen without judgment and build a trusting relationship where people feel comfortable sharing their experiences, expressing themselves openly, and working toward their goals.
Family, Friends & Time Outdoors
Outside the office, Emmelly enjoys spending time with family and friends, which helps her recharge and stay connected to the people who matter most. She also loves going for walks. Connecting with nature is something she finds relaxing and grounding, and it gives her a chance to slow down and be present.
