Meet Julie

About me

I am a lifelong learner dedicated to helping others. I hold a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology and have experience working with English- and Spanish-speaking students with learning disabilities. Additionally, I serve as a facilitator for the National Alliance on Mental Illness – Child and Adolescent Network (NAMI-CAN), where I lead a weekly peer-supported group for parents and caregivers of children and adolescents experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition. I am further refining my skills at Northwestern University, where I am pursuing a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

My Approach

I am committed to helping you achieve your mental health and wellness goals. I use evidence-based techniques to help my clients become the best version of themselves.  We will work together to gain an understanding of the underlying causes of distress and how to cope with them as you move forward. I believe that each client has unique needs and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to counseling. I use an integrative, individualized approach to counseling, which may include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, action and commitment therapy, solution-focused therapy, trauma-informed therapy, and strengths-based counseling.

Why should someone choose to work with me?

Through my diverse life experiences, I have developed a deep understanding of the intersection between learning disabilities and mental health, as well as the challenges caregivers face when supporting a child with a mental health condition. I also bring personal insight into the difficulties of raising children while maintaining a healthy marriage.

My education at Northwestern University has equipped me with the latest evidence-based counseling techniques and therapeutic modalities. As an intern, I can offer impactful and compassionate counseling at an affordable rate, making quality mental health support more accessible.
